Pros

Excellent place to launch acareer.Difficult to move up but benefits and expereince make up for that.I say one should go for it.At IBM, we make some of the industry's most advanced information technologies, including computer systems, software, networking systems, storage devices and microelectronics. Equally impressive is our worldwide network of IBM solutions and services' professionals that translate these advanced technologies into business value for our customers. Our range of products and services has given IBM a unique role in the networked world; we are at the center of the global e-business revolution. It's fuelling our growth and inspiring our people. If you spend some time with our people in an R&D lab, in a brainstorming session or even in the cafeteria over lunch, you'll feel it. A strong sense of purpose. A new determination.

Cons

Moving up and benefits aren't as great.

Pros

The experience of working across multiple customers. Ability to travel (when there is no corporate ban!). Lots of kit to get your hands on if you are in the right business area. Majority of people are sound. Working from home is encouraged. Flexible hours are encouraged. Big projects. Very big projects. you can always find someone to help if you know hwere to ask. HR is very important. Doing the right thing is encouraged. Worklife balance can be achieve if you are hard nosed about it. Decent tools to use. The really good people are promoted. You own your career no one else does.

Cons

Can be to big and to slow to move direction. When you eventually move direction, getting the rest of the business to move with you can be a hard job. To many processes. More time spent discussing an issue, costing more than the issue sometimes. Some strange business decsions are made without discussing even at a senior level the business case. Work life balance can suffer if you are weak. Rules are rules and once they are set you cant change them. Dont expect to change the world when you join. An expectation that senior management will carry you up the promo ladder is unfounded.

Pros

Solid company with interesting opportunities for young employees go are interested in technology systems. Good, and established procedures. Companies core values are important to all levels, and are shared with all the companies´ environment. They have an "employee club" that organizes events, and seeks for benefits for workers.

Cons

As it is the case of many large coorporations, task can be too specific in certain positions, and some times too monotonous (boring), which can make it difficult to outstand from the croud. There is not much feed-back for operational positions. Compensations are not very competitive. Sometimes it feels there is over share for meaningless information, but not much about important issues.
