Pros

The work the company does is good work that helps to improve the world in several verticals, health, education, energy. The company is well known and respected in the consulting world.

Cons

The company is a perfect example of allowing "The Brilliant Jerk" to survive and prosper. The company is publically held and their number one goal is to hit the next level of revenue. The company has allowed people who are able to sell work to be difficult, better to allow abhorrent behavior than to lose the revenue this person generates. Additionally, they allowed one Senior VP to manage a division right into the ground. A leader who had no vision and treated employees horribly. Eventually, this leader was released, but the damage and casualties along the way were to the detriment of company performance. ICF acquires companies for their client lists and then destroys the culture and morale of the new team, losing majority of the leadership and senior management quickly. As a result the old company dies and is replaced with a backbiting, politically charged environment where nobody works together, but is only vying for the next big contractual win. When I left, I was relieved.

Pros

Diverse projects, some great clients (if the clients only knew), and possible flexible hours/work from home (For some only: despite what they say it is applied very inconsistently ... i.e. leave your ethics and morality at the door and you too can use this "benefit").

Cons

Some departments are good but others have truly despicable work environment, so pray that you land in the right one (and the right one is not the Communication and Marketing). Management is completely out of touch and most won't blink an eye as they stab you in the back, over work you, or take credit for your work. If you experience mistreatment or unethical conduct, don't bother bringing it up to upper management or HR. They truly don't give a damn as long as it doesn't threaten their bottom-line and will instead focus on getting you out of the way. Most managers are highly insecure and focused on playing the game to survive the hell they work in (lots of infighting) until they get out. Yes, that bad, which perhaps explains the revolving door, layoffs, and dwindling new contracts.
