Pros

Pay & benefits are good

Cons

My experience with ICON on the GMC side is that while Senior Leadership is great and is looking to improve their culture, it is middle management that really drives the business and influences their employees. Senior Leadership is so new that they look to their middle management for guidance & insight on the health and direction of GMC. From my experience, middle management (Account Managers) at GMC operates from a toxic and micro-managing vantage point. There years of experience at GMC gives them clout with senior leadership, and they have full freedom to treat their employees any way they want. There is no accountability within their leadership style. For example, I met HR on my first day on the job and they were unreachable ever since. As a PM, in my 2nd week on the role, the account manager would schedule ad hoc 1:1s on my calendar at the end of the day for first thing the next morning with no agenda. I would have scheduling conflicts, but she would not take that into consideration. In my 1:1s, the account manager informed me on my 2nd week on the job that I was operating as an associate PM, and she is really concerned about my competency in the role. By my 1st month, I was fearful of losing my job, and began to have back pain and loss of hair from the stress she mounted on me. A few months later, I worked with another account manager who actually allowed me to thrive as a PM, but also began to exhibit strong micro-managing and passive aggressive tendencies toward the end of my tenure there. There are extraordinary scientific leaders and writers who are truly amazing to work with, but there are some who are very passive aggressive and unpleasant. At this point, just wish that you join an account team that has good operational and scientific colleagues who will empower & support you. Each account team has their own culture, which is disappointing. What would it look like to streamline your culture across GMC? Business development is very limited, so there are almost no career opportunities within GMC. Consider other divisions at ICON if you are trying to grow; the company overall is huge!

Pros

Great manager but functional managers are put in unfair position being overworked and high turnover of hires

Cons

The job is not how it is recruited or advertised. Two weeks of training that is inadequate for comfort, competency, efficiency of job. You will have to put in 60 hours of work a week to get 40 hours of billables.
