Pros

Idexx always seems to try to do the right thing. They listen to feedback, have never had layoffs, and continue to grow, even during recessions. They have regular "innovation days" where employees can work with others on short-term projects, and learning days for people to brush up on new skills. Politics are minimal and the general attitude is everyone trying to work together. Remote work is not only allowed, but the majority of the IT department and most developers haven't seen the office since before Covid other than for the occasional get together.

Cons

Projects tend to be very long-lived, as in decades. And working on one generally means unless you push hard to switch teams, you'll be working on the same project for the duration. On one hand, it's great for job security and work-life balance. On the other, it makes keeping up to date with the latest technologies more difficult unless you make the effort outside of work and push for change. The pace of work is very high and stress is a factor, but there's rarely a push to work beyond a standard 40-45 hour week. Salaries are average for Maine, which means compared to your high-tech Silicon Valley pay, it's peanuts. And despite yearly increases, they haven't kept up with inflation.

Pros

Your idea of job satisfaction is: 1. Delivering as many solutions as possible, as fast as you can, which generally involves cutting corners, not understanding the problem, basing the results off assumption, and frequently being forced to do other people’s jobs for them 2. Dealing with the seven bosses problem (for the fans of Office Space), and consistently being forced to context switch because the priorities can change by day, hour or minute based on which chief has the loudest war cry 3. Having a willingness to be so competitively ego driven for results that you have no issue routinely throwing others under the bus (you will probably get an award if willing to also drive the bus) 4. Living in the world of fantasy with Peter Pan, Tinkerbell, elves, unicorns, etc. and spending your time wishing your way to solutions 5. Being a code secretary for other important individuals that live in Neverland such as Captain Hook (see #3) 6. Accepting personal responsibility for failures when Captain Hook’s plan is a failure (see #3 & #5 and think production support) 7. Forfeiting your idea to the credit of Captain Hook despite being informed prior that it would not be possible or would not work (see #3) 8. Working in an environment where individual producers/contributors are crushed like grapes so that management can enjoy the wine (see #2) 9. Dealing with the reality that timelines are set before you have heard the entire two sentence problem statement and may not be changed EVER (generally involves #1, #2, #5 & #6) 10. Have a strong sense of priorities… for instance, the daily cornhole game is more important than any project meeting. After all, any assigned work can be passed to a colleague when you report that you are too “busy”

Cons

This is not your kind of job if your idea of job satisfaction is: 1. Possessing even the remotest sense of fairness and equity in the workplace, or expecting to utilize your knowledge and experience in any way to solve problems
