Pros

Benefits are really good- medical, dental, optical, pet insurance, 401K and other benefits few will utilize but are available.

Cons

Restructuring of business to be "customer concentric"- they have forgotten to fix their problems first. Such as advocating for the employees, so in turn they can be ambassadors for the brand. Management is lacking in true management skills and favoritism plays a major part in promotions and acknowledgements. Original "values" Ingvar Kamprad wanted for his company are seriously lacking and ignored. Work life balance is seriously lacking for many.

Pros

Meet nice co-workers, medical benefits, discounts, 401K.

Cons

There is no room for human error, it all comes down to black and white, polices and profit. If you can't perform due to any reason, illness, car trouble, sick child, public transportation is shut down due to weather...it doesn't matter, it is going to be an occurance against you. EVEN if you choose to use your PTO. If you're late because the bridge is up or there's a wreck blocking the bridge, the Max shuts down...your fault. I've never worked for an employer who didn't consider things out of your control. If your sick for more than one consecutive day, each day is an occurance, it should be one occurance for consecutive absence. The turn over is high, there's always an ad in paper for vacant positions. The attendance thing gets a lot of people quickly as we live in an area where there is high traffic volume and only two bridges connecting the two states for miles. If either bridge has an incident, drivers are stuck. If the Max breaks down, commuters are stuck. If the Governor declares our area a State of Emergency because of the extreme weather and we can't make it to work...if we call in and request to use our PTO until we can make it in....it's an occurance. The human element is gone.

Cult of Incompetence

Recommend

Business Outlook

Pros

You can, and most do, show up, be social, do nothing, kiss up and collect a paycheck without worrying about performance. Incompetence runs deep, all the way to the officers of the company. Top leaders fear being exposed as unskilled so they tend to lead through selfish nonsense. Big plus for under qualified employees; being under qualified and incompetent is a prerequisite for a successful career at IKEA.

Cons

You will be working for, or with, children and not adults. You cannot prepare yourself for the immaturity and lack of skills you will encounter. Huge sense of entitlement from officers and "leaders." Make no mistake, this is a cult and there will be universal condemnation for speaking up against nonsense. There is no speaking truth to power without being labeled a heretic. Since top leadership is not qualified to work at comparable levels, or in comparable paying positions outside of the company, IKEA is everything to them and nothing is out of bounds when it comes to protecting themselves. This is a cult of incompetence where you will be asked to put blinders on and check your integrity at the door. Ethically appalling.
