Pros

The work-life balance is amazing. Most people only work 4 days a week. It's a great company to take lots of training and develop yourself. Salary is good and vacation days are almost unlimited. I've seen people take 5-6 week vacations like it's the most normal thing. ING is pretty innovative within the financial industry, using social collaboration, big data and their own innovation lab to look at new opportunities.

Cons

Things move extremely slow, especially in IT, which is very frustrating if you want to get things done. The company has been shrinking and will keep shrinking in the coming years. There's not a lot of budget for projects and many people are being let go each year. This leaves its mark on the culture. People that have been working in ING for a while have amazing benefits. Unfortunately many of them are just waiting for their retirement, lacking any motivation to change. This is very frustrating especially knowing that they make 4-5 times your salary and don't really get anything done.

Bureaucracy, micro-management and poor salaries

Pros

Pot-lucks (employee provided) if you are into that type of thing. Office had a gym and several small kitchens. Free tar (um, coffee).

Cons

Way too much corporate and office bureaucracy. Management at the office were selected on tenure rather than job and people skills and leadership ability. Wages were significantly below market rates.

Pros

The employees will not be afraid to suggest ideas to improve the work processes. We have some level of flexibility & relaxed environment.

Cons

Most positions do have a minimum, a midpoint, and a maximum pay scale. I’ ve topped out at my salary, and I don't get any rise. I’m fine with that, and I can live with that. It pays my bills. In the meantime, I keep my skills sharp, keep myself engaged at work, and do some continuing education. While the company may be saying, “sorry, we can’t do more for you,” there may come a day when they can—and I’ll be ready.
