Pros
I did not mind the pay rate for the work I had to do. The work amount did increase the longer I was there because the knowledge and experience increased as well. The work really isn't that hard. The location of the job was convenient and commute was easy. The building has free garage parking. I learned how to do my own taxes so I wont have to pay anyone to do them for me.
Cons
The leadership/management is so bad there, which is what makes working at the IRS very difficult. From the team leads, to the team managers to the department managers; leadership lacks PEOPLE SERVICE SKILLS. When you first join a team/dept they preach that you can go to anyone for questions and assistance, but when you do they get mad that you went to them for assistance; stating that they have so much work they need to get done and they are way behind. The team leads are very angry, they get mad that they have to assist their fellow team members, they do not care if they show displeasure when they actually do help you. They talk down on you, they do not make you feel valued as a member, there have been plenty of complaints against various team leads but nothing gets done they still maintain their positions with nothing but a tap on the wrist. Which leads to team managers, which sometimes it feels like you do not have a manager at all. They spend their whole shift locked in their office or somewhere (who knows where?). I understand they have a lot of paperwork to do but they are not personable, they are not friendly, they do not take the time to get to know who they manage. They only talk to you when they need to. When it comes to managers that are higher up you will never see them and you will never know their names. They will not take the time to even say hi or thank you for what you do. Everyone there lacks basic people skills and manners. There ARE however a lot of "cliques" between managers and regular employees that have been there for 15+ years. Theres no teamwork. There is absolutely no employee morale. The turn over rate is through the sky. It is very hard to move up when there are people there that have worked there for 15+ years because everything is based off seniority, and work experience. That includes open job positions, to time shifts, to vacation, etc.
