Pros

Decent retirement since it’s a federal job

Cons

Horrible place to work. If I could give negative stars I would. STAY AWAY! This is the worse job I have ever worked at. The managers do not know how to do their jobs and are bullies. Horrible working environment. Training was rushed and cut short. The micromanaging is outrageous and I have never experienced anything like it. They expect you to be a robot and take phone calls back to back with no time to breath. For the amount of work required and inflation the pay is awful!

Pros

Good hours and good work.

Cons

Working in the National Office of the IRS Office of Chief Counsel (specifically Passthroughs & Special Industries) is like working at Theranos. It has a toxic culture that management is intent on perpetuating.

Pros

Length of training - had a lengthy training period that enabled us to learn quite a bit about the role before we took on the full responsibilities of the job. Supportive direct report - immediate supervisor very supportive in time off requests, needs, and concerns. Predominantly WFH - aside from the push to head back to the office, was fully remote for a long period.

Cons

The Public - anyone you come into contact with will likely be irritable, angry, and aggressive. Do not expect to find peace or even an hour without some variety of conflict, being derided, or outright verbally abused. Hypervigilant time monitoring - taking even a couple minutes may result in an immediate contact from a supervisor if you are not constantly on the line, regardless of how difficult the prior call was Low wage - despite how stressful it can be to constantly be dealing with angry, irritable individuals, as well as being constantly monitored to ensure you are always on a call, the compensation is simply not there. It is likely that most jobs in upper pay grades would be better, but I would not personally advise doing this role unless you derive pleasure from punishment.
