Pros

Many field positions in the IRS give those employees the opportunity to interact with the public, this responsibility is a very important task, done properly within the scope of the law it provides for many positive interactions, even if the purpose of the contact is initiated under difficult circumstances.

Cons

As mentioned in the positive aspect's some contacts become quite adversarial, if you do not have the proper demeanor to handle difficult contacts the job could be quite stressful & unsatisfying.

Pros

•Remote (well you're required to go in 1 day a week as of right now, but they have no problem reminding us constantly that it can change at any time)

Cons

•PAY IS NOT ENOUGH •NOT ENOUGH TIME OFF (yu get 4 hrs every 2 weeks for pto and same with sick, there's no lump some every yr. i havent had many hrs since i started 2 yrs ago. im currently at about 12 pto hrs and maybe 20 sick hrs) & if you dont have time to use, its then considered AWOL and if you provide proof like a dr's note it can be converted into LWOP but thats to the manager's discretion whether or not its LWOP and yes they have the ability to deny it EVEN WITH A LEGITIMATE NOTE •NO BEREAVEMENT TIME (yu have to use your own pto or sick time for someone's death) on the phones constantly (no downtime or time to even catch ur breath) unless you're on break. but other than that you are literally on the phone during each minute of ur shift. calls come in back to back so yu have to do all yu need to do with ur previous call while on the phone with them because as soon as yu hang up, there's another call right in ur ear. •TRAINING is horrible

Pros

You can become eligible to work from home. Medical and Dental benefits are great.

Cons

The training is horrible and does not prepare you to do the job. Worse yet, the job will get harder (not easier) after a year if you can make it that long. I begged my managers for more training to no avail. You will get yelled and cussed at by taxpayers constantly. The stress can be so high that it will make you want to cry. The systems are always having issues and there is almost never a time when everything is working as it should. The work environment has no personality (no decorations or colors).
