Pros

The other employees are good people. There is the possibility to move to different facilities if desired and there is a variety of experiences. There is no shortage of work.

Cons

There is no structure and the work structure is very shallow. There is a lot of secrecy, making people generally nervous. Along with the secrecy, there is a large work load causing excessive stress. There is not enough work/life balance; the comment "half day?" has been thrown around way too often when people leave at 5pm after putting in a full day. The bad portion of "no shortage of work" leads employees to never have any down time. The pay is also very low for those that started out during the down turn.

Pros

Decentralization means you get to experience many different aspects of the company, since they are run like small businesses. You aren't stuck with your "job description". As a coworker put it, you "wear many hats" at ITW. As a result, there is not a lot of layers in management, and thus a lot less red tape. Since you get to do a lot, the job is rarely boring. There is always something going on. Great for starting a career because you build a variety of experience very quickly. The benefits are good, and the people are good to work with.

Cons

Decentralization. You are expected to do a lot of things that aren't in your "job description", and you are expected to do a lot, period. Not many layers up and down to advance.
