Pros

There really are very few pros working at Iceland, I'll list as many as possible. 1). The staff are great, they are in fact the only reason I'm still here to this day. 2). They helped me put my life into perspective. Working in retail is ridiculous and they helped me realise that, University here I come!

Cons

1). Pay is ridiculous for the amount of work that is expected of you, if you don't get it done which is often not because of a lack of speed, you're either expected or it's insuated that you should stay behind for free to get it done. 2). The monthly "Ice News" is essentially a propoganda piece, highlighting everything that is good about Iceland. All crap really 3). You're employed on an eight hour rolling contract all year around. I get twenty a week even though I want more, in fact I need more! I'm living hand to mouth at the moment and at twenty one is makes you feel like utter crap. Going back to the eight hour contract, you essentially have to beg for more hours, compete against others who are normally your friends or more often than not you finish a shift "can you come back in?" yeah.... so I just got home and am expected to come back in... If you dont welcome to bitchiness central 4). The only way you can get promoted is by being chummy with management. 5). Very stab in the back culture. 6). A select number of people in each store are constantly expected to pull everyones weight. 7). This may and probably will sound sexist but they employ woman who state they can't lift heavy things, they still do. And once they start work myself and others end up pulling their weight too. Fun times. 8). Managers get a bonus every year, we don't even though we do all the work. Oh! Wait... We get Iceland vouchers only usable in store. £10 a year for five years which stops at £50 no matter how many years you've worked for Iceland. 9). Bonus card targets are unrealistic, you have to get it at 35% consistantly... How can any of us help that someone has either forgotten their bonus card or simple doesn't want one? Well you get a disciplinary either way.
