Pros

The biggest pro in Iceland is by far the staff in it's stores, the family atmosphere in most stores makes it a hapy friendly place to work. And if you are a student then the wage is good. HR have time and time again been able to sort out any problems arrising - Top Team of people!

Cons

Some store staff are forced to carry other staff who time and time again do not put the effort in. Because of Icelands rapid growth the company is currently bringing in external managers from outside the company i.e Tesco, Asda etc... who are not on the same level as a normal iceland manager and only see things from a pofit perspective and not a staff perspective. Iceland boasts that it has one of the highest pay deals for front line staff however no member of staff usually gets over 20 hours as iceland does not wish to pay the NI of that staff member. (another job could be found if the twenty hours were not over 5 days!) So no matter how high they hike the wage no one who is not either living with parents, a student or on benafits can afford to live on those hours. There is a common expectation that if the hours are tight and they cannot pay you to come in that you should come in to store anyway and work for free. The progress in Iceland it's a case of "Its not what you know but who you know" friends and buddies are always looked after in this company. It may see like i am being overly critical however i have worked for this company for over 8 years and since the huge expansion i have seen a dramatic change in how it operates.
