Politics over Performance

Pros

Ease of work. Company really invests in things to make employees happy, from happy hours to facility stuff. They genuinely care about keeping people satisfied from the outward appearance.

Cons

Unless you are part of the "club" you will not move up. Performance results don't mean as much as your ability to put together the best power point presentation. Senior leadership, the VP levels, have lost touch with their employees and spend more time telling them what to do rather than challenging them to do it for them (undervaluing their talent with problem solving).

Pros

Great, hard working and clever people trying their best to meet crazy deadlines with limited work processes and tools Good benefits, nice campus and numerous happy hours

Cons

I had to get out. Severe lack of mature work processes for a company this size and that leads to chaos. Company is not mature but has grown to a point now where’s it’s very difficult to catch up. There is no delegation of authority system so nobody takes accountability for decisions and it can take weeks for decisions to be made. Senior leaders (VPs) lack ability to organize teams and have little idea of what it takes to get work done. The few processes that we do have (eg PDP) are not followed but ignored to meet management timelines. This leads to badly designed products that are difficult to Manufacture. Company can’t decide whether it’s a IVD or RUO company. Quality system is broken but nobody at VP level seems to care.

Pros

Pay and benefits are decent. The campus is pretty.

Cons

Toxic culture. No onboarding. No career development discussions. Gossip is rampant. Backstabbing is always imminent. Creativity is frowned upon if not outright ridiculed by management. The environment is anything but collaborative, even though they preach "deeply collaborative" over and over again as one of the company's values. In reality, people barely speak to one another at all.
