Pros

Access to a handful of genuinely skilled technologists willing to share their expertise made certain stretches of this role worthwhile. If you are fortunate enough to land near one of them, absorb everything you can.

Cons

Where to begin. Leadership here is less a meritocracy than a recruitment campaign. The organization has an aggressive, almost evangelical drive to push individuals, regardless of qualification, into management roles. Declining is treated not as a professional decision, but as a loyalty test you have morally failed. The pipeline and pressure exists to grow the pyramid of leadership, and not to serve the people within it. From the point at which one declines a “leadership” position, you will be treated noticeably worse. It’s just bullying with extra steps. It should surprise no one that the most senior positions are occupied by individuals with a particular advantage over their peers: proximity to the CEO at the dinner table. Whether this reflects a deliberate strategy or simply the natural entropy of an unchecked founder, the effect on organizational credibility is the same. Speaking of the CEO, employees are periodically conscripted into the audience of what can only be described as an in-house personal development brand. Attendance at these sessions is framed as a mandatory opportunity. Though, it is not so much an opportunity as it is mandatory. On the subject of professionalism and communication standards: expectations are applied with remarkable inconsistency across the organization. High standards are selectively enforced, and the disparity is visible enough that it does not go unnoticed by those who actually meet them. Finally, and this warrants documentation, my separation from this company was recorded in a manner that directly contradicts the terms under which I resigned. I fulfilled my notice period in full. The paperwork tells a different story. I would encourage anyone considering this employer to keep meticulous records of every “professional” exchange, beginning on day one. I have additional points of feedforward. However, I’ve concluded this organization has not earned them. Frankly, I doubt they’d even be heard out, land properly, or acted upon.

Pros

If you are from Idaho and conservative, may be the only viable company in Boise. Almost everyone is white and straight and religious

Cons

The Management Team has a shared cultural understanding based on philosophical ideas that can be considered cult like. They will try to prop anyone up into leadership and then you learn soon after they are trying to get rid of one or some of these employees. It absolutely does not have the culture that you would find in a Tech Company in San Francisco, Austin, or Seattle. These people are majority religious and don’t seem to really get it. Their approach to projects can be chaotic. They do not go out of their way to try to accommodate employees going through personal crises. They have fired a significant number of their local employees, that either don’t perform, reasonable. But also if they don’t have the cultural fit, see the cult like shared culture, based on a controversial movement from the 70s. They are behind by years in their approach to Software development, If you have worked in the major tech centers, this company will be a shock. I do believe the CEO is a good person and means well. Some of the upper management is obviously playing a role and projects disingenuousness, they also would never get to where they were in any other tech company. Their approaches and ideas are flabergasting

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with feedback. While our approach to software and management may not be the norm, it is our mission to always run the business while putting people first. We hope that if you had issues with coworkers, managers, or the organizational structure, you discussed your concerns with our leadership team. Pros

The company values are great. That's why they feel so good when you learn about them. Leadership is a well-oiled machine convincing you that they take those values seriously.

Cons

...BUT, make no mistake, the advertised values don't actually shape or restrict the behaviors and actions of the owners/CEO. These values only exist as a scaffold to whip you against. These owners successfully hire, cultivate, and promote personality types that they can control. No one ever treats the CEO like he treats everyone else, and simply put: he thinks the fecal matter coming out his mouth doesn't stink. But it does. The big stink. Many meetings and conversations contained targeted direct verbal and emotional harassment by the CEO, amidst peers. It's quite shocking when you see and experience it for the first time. I've never seen anyone push back. Dude is a one-man army of unsupported assumptions and biases that he will attempt to force down your throat "with love" (he tells everyone he loves them) while offensively explaining how you wanted it or deserved it, even though he's way off base. If you resist/refuse that narrative tickling your tonsils, beware that ultimately your unwillingness to accept/agree will be indirect grounds for dismissal. The CEO-created leadership style of metaphysical-nonsense, embodied in most of these zombie-leaders, tries to blur the line between therapist and employer, peer-pressuring vulnerable honest extractions in multiple contexts - then disseminating and sharing this private/sensitive knowledge. Multiple times I've seen these shared vulnerabilities used against the person later. I've even seen this pattern play out based on sensitive PHI, without any regard for medical privacy or concern for the individual (mind blown). I would not trust this leadership with any sensitive information. Worst "HR" department ever! They are the designated cheerleaders of this backward-CULTure and are zealots in their own right. Just read the comments and narrative from them in these reviews. Try to imagine navigating your HR needs and communicating within that meta-language all day. Summary: This zombie-leadership with no individual backbone has sold itself into the cultish endeavors of the CEO. They will not hesitate to violate laws, contracts, norms, values, morals, and you - if you are perceived to question the CEO's agenda for his fiefdom or stand up for these targeted vulnerable people. This company is not about software nor people, despite what they would have you believe; except that software and staff powers the economic engine. It is about the CEO and his "platform" (personal fiefdom) from which he derives $$ to pursue his exotic liberal self-serving agenda with a veneer of zen-like legitimacy - a veneer which I personally know is fake and sheddable whenever necessary.
