Not enough progression

Pros

The benefits are excellent including 10% towards retirement, and an HSA account

Cons

Work life balance is non existent, despite the university offering 30-36 days off a year. Raises must be asked for, and opportunities for advancement are stifled in favor of external candidates.

Pros

Job security, stability, insurance, investments

Cons

Workloads increase, pay does not. Departments are often not allowed to fill vacant positions, which clearly states management doesn't understand or care about staff workloads. Pay is not equal or merit-based, and it's not great. It's difficult for a single mother to survive on most staff salaries, unless you are upper administration, who clearly does not understand this. There is a huge pay gap between the little people (staff) and upper management.
