Pros

I split my time between research on an independent project and teaching undergraduate level chemistry courses. It really helped me get a direction in my career path when I realized that teaching was not for me.

Cons

The research, although interesting, varied from person to person. There is not a structured set of requirements allowing different people in different groups to graduate with significantly different amount of published work.

Pros

Working at a regional campus of IU is great. It's much smaller, and it's like a family. The benefits are great.

Cons

The pay at a regional campus is significantly lower than Bloomington. Bureaucracy can be very slow moving when it comes to new ideas.

Pros

IU has an amazing benefits package. Work is in an academic setting. Researchers at the institute are engaging and professional. Great intern experience for students and research fellows.

Cons

Poor leadership among the executive team and also among several board members (who work unusually close with non-ED staff). Lack of cohesion and strategy among some cross-departmental work. Due to budget constraints, leadership hires junior staff to do certain work that should be done by more seasoned professionals, to the detriment of the entire organization. Multiple junior staff have been left with low morale due to lack of support, resulting in high turnover among certain positions. An organization set in its ways, stretched thin, that doesn't know how to best utilize its resources.
