Pros

People are nice, the work is worthwhile, and there is definitely job security.

Cons

Salaries are LOW... about half of what other Big Ten schools pay for the exact same job. As a result, everyone who works at IU is a local of Bloomington, and there is rampant nepotism in getting jobs. It's one of the whitest places I've ever worked as a result, very little diversity in the staff, and those who do come from places other than Bloomington do not stay.

Pros

Being an associate instructed helped me pay for my graduate education and teaching the students that cared was rewarding. Working with most professors was good as well

Cons

Some challenges to working here are apathetic students who often could care less what they're learning or not. Also the system of clocking in and out is flawed. Hours also varied from week to week and often times you were expected to do more in a week than you were paid for.

Pros

Great department for studying chemistry and earning an advanced degree. There is a lot of cross-collaboration between labs.

Cons

Depending on the lab group, hours may not be very flexible.
