Pros

Stability, benefits, professional development opportunities. Once you are in the door at IU they like to keep you. Many stay for life.

Cons

Some folks who stay for life really don't want to be here. Each department or unit varies alot, so be aware when you are interviewing of the personalities. They are not likely to be leaving any time soon, so you'll have to work with them!

Pros

Excellent work-life balance, great benefits package.

Cons

Relatively low-paying for position/education level. The experience that you have as an employee is largely determined by the personality of your supervisor if you are in academic research. if you have a good boss, things are great. If you have a bad boss, you are left with little to no recourse, but this is generally true of academia as a whole.
