Pros

Pay assistance while pursuing professional education, located near the City of Bloomington, access to on-campus resources and activities (e.g. opera, theater).

Cons

Administration has a track record of being hostile toward graduate teachers, workers, and researchers. The tiered system favors grant writing, meaning that teaching is rarely prioritized. There is little or no opportunity to advance within the university using the skills that are actually valuable: teaching and researching.

Pros

Great healthcare benefits Separate vacation and sick time HSA contributions from employer Good 401k contributions from employer

Cons

Doesn't pay nearly enough Staunchly against remote work and only allow some hybrid work while constantly threatening to take that away Bloated management structure - too many middle managers with 6 figure salaries Culture is not great - they don't care about your mental health and constantly push DEIJ instead of actually taking care of employees
