Pros

Life/Work Balance, Mission greater than one's self interest, fantastic healthcare and benefits, encouraging and positive atmosphere.

Cons

Limited upward mobility, high cost of living near campus, tempting to become complacent in work role, some micro-management at the executive level. Policies don't always align with stated values.

Thanks for your continued service and the 5 star ratings. Keep challenging us with new ideas as that is how we all grow as a university. PS - The campus looks gorgeous. Keep up the great work!

Pros

The work/life balance in three positions I've had at IU was quite good. It was easy to leave work at work and separate it from my personal life. Benefits, especially insurance, are amazing.

Cons

Positions pay significantly less than what one could reasonably expect and there is no room for negotiation as salaries are slotted in advance. Little opportunity for salary growth beyond sub-cost of living increases.

Thanks for giving us 4 starts on the rating and recommending IU. Salaries are always a tricky thing at a public institution, especially when we try to keep education as economically possible for all as we can. That being said though, we do have a very generous Personal Time Off policy and a strong retirement mix. Those all need to be factored into the total compensation package.

Pros

decent benefits i suppose but not much else

Cons

deans and higher administration making 6 figures at least, while program administrators are poorly compensated. bad oversight coming from the top down- disorganized, insular, and a complete nightmare for anyone not already indoctrinated with a "rah rah hoosiers" mentality. not a place for a proper higher ed professional.
