Pros

I love the educational environment, and I really enjoy working with students. Employees have the same free and low-cost opportunities that students have.

Cons

Pay for adjunct faculty is so low that I couldn't even pay the rent on a studio apartment. If this was my only source of income, I would need to live with my parents.

Pros

Definitely different than a corporation. It's not cut-throat. It's pretty laid back. Very little outside work required. Basically, people treat you as a human. Also, it's a great university, so it's wonderful being a part of that mission. Great benefits, like time off, medical, etc.

Cons

Low pay compared to corporations. Lots of bureaucracy because it's a public institution. Really low yearly raises. High parking cost.
