      It Is Anything But "The Future of Health"

      Pros

      many smart, kind people who want to deliver quality healthcare; good pay; and the potential for much needed transformation with an upcoming change in leadership

      Cons

      minimal exposure to leading edge thinking and practice (which will not position people for future job prospects), no innovation and many factors working against it, little opportunity for impact (as slow, dysfunctional and incompetent decision making is a barrier), no meaningfulness (the only criterion seems to be "how much money can we make"), lackluster benefits, and an HR function that can be described as nothing more than an embarrassment

      Clinical staff is good.

      Cons

      Too corporate- administrators manage from balance sheets with focus on productivity over patient care. A lot of money spent on pretty buildings and a lot of money- over $700,000,000.00- stashed in the Caymans (see their 501 3 C filings). Medical staff in agreement that administrators only care about making money for as little investment as possible.

      Good, supportive coworkers. Coming to work is enjoyable. Top notch docs in msicu. Decent benefits.

      Cons

      Underpaid, unsupported beside nurses. Out of touch management. Nurses leave too often for better pay and/or masters programs because they're tired of exhausting bedside care.
