Pros
The majority of employees do a very good job and are focused on helping patients recover so that they can move on with the lives. The Inova Health System invests a lot of money and time in trying to make their hospitals a good place to work. Like most large companies, they invest in their employees because they want engaged employees - it's a win-win for all parties when employees like to come to work. The Patient and their families are the ultimate winners if they have engaged employees treating them.
Cons
Healthcare organizations are very stressful - people can die as a result of poor decisions and distracted, overwhelmed employees. Many clinicians are promoted into management positions - this path is normal and encouraged if the person wants to move in that direction. Therefore, management training needs to be a prime focus of the organization and those managers and employees who do not make the grade need to either be retrained, developed, or terminated.
