Pros

Some of the best reasons to work in my particular dept.which is the patient registration at the Healthplex, is the ability to have a flexible schedule. They work around your school schedule like no place I've ever been to. Another good reason is the tuition reimbursement of $ 3000 yearly for full time employees. There's also discounts for small fee that gets taken off your paycheck for lawyer's fees, medical pet care, financial advise, Inova classes, etc.

Cons

At the place where I work( I am sure it varies) it's hard to advance. They also do not give you any feedbacks on your work. Health insurance is pretty expensive for a family of 3 an insurance that pays at 10% coinsurance and no yearly deductible comes up to about $ 500 a month.

Pros

As a very large health system Inova easily provides a sense of supporting the community via a worth while industry. At its basic level healthcare is a noble profession. As an employer, Inova's sheer size provides opportunities that only large employers can provide. For many disciplines, in healthcare as well as other non-healthcare specific fields Inova offers many opportunities. These opportunities come in the actual diversity of daily work, projects and the number of advancement options.

Cons

Current senior leadership has been in place for decades and by some measures much of the system’s success is attributed to that leadership. However, true dysfunction exists at some levels within the system today – it is and has not been truly as healthy as it may seem from the outside. All considered, one can not help but ask, what would the system look like today if a more effective leader had been a the helm over the last 5 or ten years? In general, Inova leadership tends to operate in silos with rather poor corporate leadership. Efforts to improve middle management have been superficial at best; a waste of money (community resources) at worst. In addition, regular turnover and executive reorganizations continue to frustrate leadership stability. While opportunities exist one must consider the volume of work and the poor communication of leadership expectations.

Pros

Convenience of location, and the benefits package is good.

Cons

As it seems to be with many health care organizations, the management environment is extremely 'cliquey' and the potential for growth seems to be more about whom you know or how well you tow the party line versus what positive impact you can make for the patients, the hospital or the organization. While they say out of the box thinking is welcomed and appreciated, I found over the course of 4 years, that this was not true. This does vary from hospital to hospital, but overall - INOVA's management and Human Resources departments leave alot to be desired, and Mr. Singleton, no matter how many times he's heard these complaints, seems to do nothing about changing the environment.
