Competent talent should go elsewhere

Pros

Concept is cool, met some very knowledgeable people

Cons

Cannot keep competent talent because they promote you for tenure (aka friends they started in restaurant with), even into roles that require a completely different, higher level skill set. If you’ve run a few location for 15 years, you suddenly become qualified to fill a strategic role that requires decisions that affect all brands throughout the organization. (That’s sarcasm). This is made possible by being cool with the right people, not by experience or any education, which is looked down upon, since it might make those without it feel bad. It is impossible if you have either one or heaven forbid BOTH experience and education to get promoted. And people of color interested in working here should not accept any offer or position that you want to grow out of for at least 7 years. But by that time, the company will have restructured anyways. Because HR C-Suite has zero idea what they are doing. A favorite quote you will hear is about “a seat at the table.” And the table at one point had a hint or two of diversity there. Count how many directors of color there are, and then VPs. Then see how long the past ones have lasted. The ones they have aren’t all that sharp, just “yes” girls. Do they even care about inclusion at this point? Save yourself the headache if you are a talented I’m HR at all. You will be much more appreciated AND compensated elsewhere.

Chaotic culture, constant turnover

Pros

Good coworkers, fun brands, that’s it

Cons

Working at Inspire Brands has been one of the most frustrating experiences of my career. Turnover is extremely high, and the workload far exceeds the number of people available to do it. Promotions often go to the wrong people — usually based on connections rather than competence — and leadership turnover is constant. I’ve had three different Chief People Officers since joining, and with every restructure, priorities shift again with little clarity or follow-through. Morale across teams is very low, but senior leadership doesn’t seem to notice or care. The environment feels like a boys’ club where people of color and women are often overlooked for advancement or recognition. Compensation is below market for the amount of work expected, and the company’s pace of change feels unsustainable. There are talented, hard-working people here who genuinely care, but they’re burned out and unsupported. Unless you’re comfortable navigating constant change, unclear direction, and inequity, I’d look elsewhere.

No room to grow

Pros

- Most of the brands are fun and are doing well - Work life balance is usually pretty good

Cons

- No room for upward mobility. People in this company are stuck at their level for years. There is also a clear preference for hiring externally rather than promoting from within. It does not matter how hard you work, you will not be recognized. - Compensation is well below average - Forced return-to-office policy - Benefits are sub-par for a company of this size
