Great place if you enjoy being challenged

Pros

There's always a challenge, and lots of opportunities if you can actively manage changing priorities and can self-advocate. There's a place here for strong programmers in legacy as well as leading edge technologies. This is definitely a place to cultivate your development skills, from production support programming to enterprise architecture development. Strong programmers needed!

Cons

Not for the faint of heart. The pace can get crazy, but there are opportunities for great accomplishments.

Pros

You may be fortunate to work with genuine people, but not always guaranteed. Good experience for a new grad to learn about software and insurance. It's a job at the end of the day, it pays the bills.

Cons

Company was ok at one point but ultimately employees and customers don't appear to be the heart of what they do. The saying 'love your customers to death' no longer drives how the company operates. Culture of the organisation is to squeeze as much out of you and then spit you out, however they are trying to put initiatives in place to make it less work hard and no play. It should be a win win but in some instances you feel it's a lose win and when the cons outweigh the pros its time to leave. Lacking in career progression which can ultimately make you demoralised and unmotivated. Workload expected does not match the salary you get especially when you gain more experience, they don't pay based on the market rate which means your better off getting the experience and moving on after 18 months . Personal development is lacking to some degree. They are more focused on training you to work in their ways as opposed to applying best practice and industry standard. Beware of things like unlimited holiday, there is actually a cap that isn't openly communicated. Beware of flexible working, this approach depends on your line manager so just because in theory it's there doesn't guarantee you will get it in practice. There is lack of transparency in the direction of the organisation. A lot of things are said but doesn't result in actions. Ultimately, if you have a great line manager your experience could be ok however nothing is guaranteed and this is dependent on the company having good managers in the first place. Make sure you ask the right questions, check their experience on LinkedIn outside of the company because that will give you a hostlic view of what their capabilities are.

Nice coworkers - many politics

Pros

There are still Knowledgeable people left in the company mostly old managers from way back. laid back work environment.

Cons

For some weird reason, no one understands the titles they hand off every now and then to random people in Montreal office! In recent years, junior people and I mean junior!! got promoted or hired with big titles! They easily name people; Managers, Senior Managers, Product owner, Senior Product owner, Lead, Architect etc. when in reality they are just Analysts or mid-level Analysts! You see a person with hardly 5 years of experience as a Senior PO or a Manager or a Lead, then they are constantly shadowing or asking help from people with 10-15 years of experience who are still titled as Analyst or Senior Analyst (mostly in the States). Even the clients find it funny to deal with these titles while the people are still green in that industry/expertise!
