Pros

PTO and health benefits were the only Pros

Cons

Company has gone through numerous transformations but is nowhere near being on track as long as the executive management team in claims and underwriting continue to hold these positions without adequate training and development, as well as claim managers who simply take up space.

Pros

During the last 3 years, the benefits to working at OneBeacon was a fair salary and an easy commute.

Cons

There were a number of layoffs during the recession, which I understood, but I feel that the layoffs went too far. Several people who had unique skill sets & knowledge that was still needed were let go, which left many people doing work that was above their job level, experience & qualifications. The people that were retained had to take on not just more work, but more difficult work, resulting in poor performance. People weren't allowed to work overtime to catch up, so a lot of things just simply didn't get done.

E&S Property Team - Could be better

Pros

It's worth noting that the entire property team is fantastic. From the President's leadership down to the underwriters themselves, there's a strong sense of teamwork and collaboration. The compensation package is attractive, offering a competitive salary and a generous Short-Term Incentive Plan program. In the past two years, the STIP payouts have been particularly strong due to the company's excellent combined ratio. The company invests in employee development through training programs and opportunities for professional growth.

Cons

Unfortunately, the current team organization is assigned to three directors (management). Two of the three directors are down-to-earth and respectful. However, there's one director who micromanages, takes all the credit on team calls, prioritizes work over personal life, and has a "my way or the highway" mentality. Benefits package falls short: Low 401k match, expensive health insurance, and high employee turnover raise concerns
