Pros

Coworkers are nice, very relaxed environment, the trainers in my department were amazing.

Cons

People who do hard work are not recognized by their managers. Especially those who have had a consistently high level of performance. People who brown nose, and do not do much are recognized ferociously and awarded in a way that you'd expect the previous group to be awarded. Little to no advancement. The pay is super low. Like the lowest when looking at a national level, and the lowest when looking at a local level. HR has a hard time understanding incidents concerning POC, as evidenced in an incident a friend told me about that happened after I left. IDT is getting more and more diverse, but at some times, even I have felt uncomfortable with comments I've overheard from people who eventually got promoted to management positions over said diverse group.

Pros

Lots of amazing people. Cool bio-tech stuff to work on. Decent work/life balance.

Cons

Horrible pay. I left and got a 40% raise. A 40% raise. Granted, I went to one of the top paying tech companies in the area, but a 40% raise!!! Little room for advancement. Management at the top is all backdoor meetings with little visibility. Our quarterly meetings were held once a year. Never once had a conversation with the owner. At my new job - a much larger company, I already had dinner with the CEO and had meaningful conversations with all the top execs. I heard through the grapevine that they are now outsourcing jobs to India.

Pros

interesting problems. interesting industry. interesting applications. good work-life balance. good benefits. smart people. family oriented. company offers a good service to the world.

Cons

company prioritizes profits over mission. executive leadership does not deeply understand the chemistry of synthetic oligo manufacturing- most hold MBAs, or engineering degrees. few have molecular biology degrees. since being acquired the company has not staffed executive positions internally leading to a top down cultural shift that has pushed away many veteran employees. career mobility is virtually none. there are several people in the engineering department who's title hasn't changed in > 10 years. they stayed because it is a stable and challenging place to work and historically had a great culture, but since being acquired, much of that has been lost.
