Pros

Internal movement is encouraged and championed. The company has strong leadership and people development processes. It is the market leader in most markets segments it competes in. Good 401k plan. Has proven success in declining markets and above market growth in growing markets. Stock price has increased in the last 5 years. Values clear expectations. Easy-going about sick days and personal appointments during work hours. International opportunities.

Cons

Slow vacation growth. Underperforming and non-core businesses seem always at risk of being sold. Facilities are located in remote locations which can discourage internal movement.

NO work/life balance - Good luck planning weekends

Pros

The plant is close to home.

Cons

Poor management, scheduling, hiring, communication, etc has made for a long term career of missed weekends and evenings with family and friends. Telling us at the last minute whether or not we have to work late or on weekends is completely unacceptable. You leave employees without any true opportunity to catch their breath or have a life outside work.

Temple-Inland was a great company, until IP bought it

Pros

I wouldn't really consider it a "pro" (but it seems like many employees do) you don't really have to do any work, and you won't get fired.

Cons

No one wants to really work, and that makes it hard to get work done, especially if you are relying on others. VERY compartmentalized, very little chance of cross-training. Company is headquartered in Memphis.
