Pros

Good starting pay in many cases. Opportunities to advance if you are willing to move.

Cons

Manufacturing in the US is challenging in the world economy. If you don't want to change locations your value isn't noticed.

Pros

Competitive salary offer for entry level employees - Memphis is a city with a low cost of living, and the pay for IT positions is very good for entry level employees. IP is one of the largest companies in Memphis allowing employees to take advantage of local discounts and promotions such as Grizzlies and Redbirds events.

Cons

Industry heavily influenced by economic trends Highly focused on cost savings above all else The company gives full control of your 'releaseable' status to your department manager. This can effectively block any career development if you are filling a business need during a extended hiring freeze. The company is currently engaging in 'cost savings through attrition'; many positions are not being back filled and duties are spread over existing employees. In efforts to save money, tuition reimbursement, hardware refreshes, and BlackBerry service have all be discontinued indefinitely.

Pros

The company offers competitive pay and benefits with strong emphasis on a safe work environment. There are many facility locations, leading to the possibility to live in an area where one wishes. Many employees have enjoyed a long stable work history with the company. The company has a diverse workforce with clear anti-discrimination policies.

Cons

The company is undergoing downsizing of salaried positions. This appears likely to continue. Virtually all decisions are made from the top. There are strict bureaucratic procedures for all activities. Most facilities are located in remote areas resulting in long commutes for those who don't wish to live in the country. Unofficially, promotion requires relocation to facilities around the country/world.
