Pros
A phenomenal culture that thrives on trust and growth. The internal atmosphere is highly supportive and non-competitive. This means people know their teammates are capable and going to get the job done, which results in very little micro-management and a largely low-stress environment. People are given opportunities to step up and take on tasks, and strong mentorship leads to people being constantly challenged. Learning is also a critical component to the company, and everyone from Apprentices to Senior Devs will find someone to learn something from. Helping each other is key component of the Intrepid DNA and people eagerly jump at the chance to assist a coworker. Additionally, the company is fully supportive of the social ecosystem at Intrepid, meaning there is a tasty buffet of book clubs, game groups, sports leagues and bar hopping that people can choose to participate in - or not! Thats fine too!
Cons
Working as a service company definitely has challenges a product company does not, but the reverse is true. Some of those challenges are providing big discounts to clients or short time frames, which can lead to high-stress projects. But these are becoming less common as the team gets better at communicating expectations and estimations. I think there is also a partial imbalance in team investment. Which is to say, because the Development and Design teams are the primary billable providers of income, they are often treated with 1st priority over some of the other teams. This makes sense - but sometimes feels like other departments are left with less resources.
