Ambitious goals, but a lack of direction and accountability

Pros

1. The overall goal of the company is very exciting, and if executed right, it will have a massive impact on the GI field.

Cons

1. The company grew very quickly in the past year or so, but this was not done strategically. As a result, roles and expectations are unclear and shift on a monthly basis. This results in people being fired and laid off, which makes employees feel disposable and negatively impacts morale. 2. While all start-ups experience growing pains and restructuring, I would argue the rate that IS pivots is due to a lack of strategy. No team seems to have a clear sense of the company's direction, or how their work can contribute to the overall mission. Leadership has stated they would provide a review of company strategy multiple times, and at each point they have skirted the issue. 3. The company does not provide industry-standard salaries, and there are very wide pay discrepancies within teams between colleagues who have very similar roles and levels of expertise. 4. Communication is not done with intention. Employees will find out that their role, manager, or team has changed in a meeting or casual slack/email.

Cons

FIRST: Anyone who has written a recent positive review likely has either been asked to write said review or is someone from upper management writing a review to offset the recent negative reviews... IS likes to preach that they are a "people first" team. In reality, that is blatantly not true. They used the "blitzscaling" method for growth and made everyone in the company read a book to try and make it seem like a good idea that will be great for everyone. It's not... Basically, it was rapid hiring and acquisitions and at no expense spared, and then rapidly firing/laying people off. Doesn't sound like "people first" to me. They WILL lie about promotions, bonuses, etc., so don't expect to see any of that. Jon Ng is a compulsive liar, hypocrite, and someone who won't think twice about stabbing you in the back. His nice guy appearance is just that... a facade covering who he really is. Jon has no problem asking for ideas and then attacking you if he doesn’t like them, but don't be surprised if your idea magically is used and Jon takes credit for it. Stay far, far away from anyone in HR. If there is any issue that you bring up to them, assume that the entire management team will know what it was and that it was you who had the concern, essentially putting a target on your back. If you do make the mistake of going to them, you should probably just start looking for a new job immediately since you'll likely be gone soon, as they have a tendency to push issues under the rug. The current state of the company is a revolving door; everyone is joining and leaving immediately when they realize exactly what is going on at IS. I made the mistake of staying too long, hoping things might get better, but finally left.
