If you decide to work at J-U-B, be prepared to take a big step back in time. Everything from the policies and procedures to benefits and pay don't seem to have changed much since the company was founded in the fifties.
Keep your expectations subterranean if you're hoping for progressive parental leave plans, and make sure you use any accrued PTO ASAP - you'll lose it otherwise, regardless of how many hundreds of hours you've racked up while working late and on weekends. The "flex time" model the company touts is completely arbitrary, and seems to change depending on the supervisor's mood. J-U-B's policies do seem to fall right in line with their target employment demographic, evident even on the website. Whatever you do, don't say "DEI."
But, if your frat bro, your spouse, or your dad already works at J-U-B, expect plenty of opportunities for advancement and chances to grow. Unless you're going to church on Sundays with your supervisor, though, you'll never be accepted as a part of the community, and won't receive the same shots.
And while the ineptitude of mid-level management at both corporate and local levels can easily be explained by rampant nepotism, there is no excuse for the bumbling antics of the HR team. Do not expect to be supported in any measure should you have trouble with a coworker, supervisor or "coach," the person randomly assigned to arbitrarily assess your goals and progress at ill-defined intervals.
There is no clear path to ownership or advancement at J-U-B, although both brass rings are advertised as easy to attain. The "Career Path" graphic on the company intranet looks nice, but hardly reflects the reality of what it's like to actually work at J-U-B.
Workplace dynamics differ by location, but there is an overall lack of leadership at almost every local level. This is particularly evident in the Kaysville, Utah office, where the shocking indifference stemming from the area manager leaves an absolutely toxic work environment filled with chaos and indecision.
Above all else: dishonesty. I'm struck by the ease with which employees at this company, not just the leadership, consistently fail one another through cowardice in communication.
