Pros

The pay is not too bad for my level of experience and benefits are ok considering the times and shape of the economy. My position gives me quite a bit of freedom to accomplish what is needed.

Cons

Communications could be better from senior management to lower level managers. There seems to be a disconnect between senior management and lower managers. Extremely top heavy company: a VP or Pres for every GM it seems. Too many middle men built into the organization, could be way more efficient. At times the mid level mangers have unreal demands and offer very little in the way of support to help meet those demands.

Pros

JELD-WEN is a large employer (over 20,000), and offers a solid benefits package that include full health, dental, and vision. As a manager the opportunities to change jobs within the company or be promoted are fairly often. I have moved (by choice) 3 times in just as many years to advance myself. There is a good mix of experience and young talent at almost every facility.

Cons

The recent recession has hit hard and incentives and bonuses for all management have been virtually eliminated. The low starting salary for managers makes this change even more difficult. JELD-WEN is a private company and does not share financial details even with most managers. Many companies offer training conducted by outside companies in categories like safety, leadership, job skills, etc. JELD-WEN relies almost solely on training conducted within the company, and in some areas it can feel like the blind leading the blind.
