Moving in a strange direction, rigid top-down hierarchy
Pros
Non-salary benefits remain while other companies have eliminated them. Overly generous work-life balance (you make phone calls and check personal email anytime because everyone else does it). Company regularly and willingly sponsors visas.
Cons
Compensation structure is strange: well below average pay and little career advancement but you get those benefits and job security. This may be fine for those who have settled down with family, but sorry, I'm not at that stage yet. On that note, many in corporate HQ abuse the work-life generosity. More than once people have left during department meetings to work on home improvement - in all my years of working I've never seen such negligence. The company is a typical top-down hierarchy. All company operations must pass through the CEO, which for a firm this size means weeks to months before approval. Also, a lot of money is being invested in ramping up China production at the expense of domestic operations. It's plainly obvious the plant managers are disgruntled but there's not much they can do about it.. JM will probably remain fine regardless but the decision is a lot grayer than the executive office is willing to acknowledge.
