Don’t Get Comfortable

Pros

Great colleagues and challenging projects. Good place to get experience before moving on to advance your career.

Cons

Often too much work and they are not very good at workload leveling. Some people work the bare minimum (up to 40 hours per week), leaving the rest of us to pick up the slack to hit deadlines and often working 50+ hours per week. No real incentive to work overtime since it’s paid as straight time for salary exempt full time employees. Promotions are hard to make happen and almost impossible once you get to the Senior level. You need lots of backup and references, it shouldn’t be that hard. The easiest way to get ahead, leave the company for a year or two and then come back. Over the past few years Jacobs hired a lot of people and often paid them more than long time employees with more experience and better qualified. Pay is ok, on par for the industry. Benefits are horrible, the insurance is terrible and 401k match is bare minimum. Great place to get some experience and move on. Take it from me, I was there for over 10 years and now that I’ve moved on to something better, I regret having stayed there so long (5 years max would be ideal).
