Poor Leadership and Apathetic HR

Pros

I can honestly say I learned a lot from my time at Jamf. My direct coworkers were some of the smartest and most caring people that I've worked with and the projects I worked on were engaging and impactful. Jamf also took COVID very seriously and immediately transitioned to a WFH model, despite previously being against the idea for most employees/roles. They also provided stipends to each employee to build out their home offices. I believe Jamf has now transitioned to a "WFH if you want" model permanently.

Cons

I'll echo what another poster said about not overstaying your welcome at Jamf. Jamf is not the place if you're looking for a competitive salary or career-advancing opportunities. In my department, the best opportunities went to those who didn't question management while the people who spoke out with valid concerns were basically told to stop talking in team meetings. Jamf constantly preaches "relentless self-improvement" but I never saw that within my department's leadership. Employees were never given the opportunity to provide direct feedback about management and the yearly "engagement survey" results were ignored when they started to show a decline. This caused concerns to fester and department morale to drop to an all time low. Anyone who went to HR with concerns was ignored. The compensation at Jamf is laughable. They may have been able to justify the low pay when they were competing with the marked in Eau Claire, Wisconsin but now that remote work is a thing, it's no wonder tenured employees are leaving in droves. The brain drain is real and I think Jamf will start feeling the effects of it soon if they aren't already.

Jamf Response

Thanks for taking the time to share this feedback with us. We are sorry this has been your experience. We do value employee input to understand how we can learn and grow as a company, and where we may be falling short. As a high growth organization, we do recognize there has been some growing pains. We are committed to taking care of our team members, and are looking to address appropriate staffing levels, compensation, and making sure employees have a positive experience at Jamf. We know that the compensation landscape globally has shifted, and Jamf has a number of efforts currently underway to be able to retain our current talent as well as continue to recruit top talent in the industry. We take a ‘whole employee experience’ view of compensation and strive to make investments not only in cash and salary related items, but also other services to ensure the wellbeing (financial, physical, and emotional) of our teams. It is important that we provide all employees in every part of the organization with the systems, tools, resources and accommodations they need to be productive and creative, and benefits and rewards to recognize their work. If you are open to sharing additional information regarding your experience, please feel free to reach out to me directly.– CHRO, amy.rennock@jamf.com

A falling star

Pros

There are some very smart, passionate people here. People are always looking to improve and are willing to take time out of their day to help you out. Genuinely nice and humble teammates. Good work-life balance. Pay is pretty in-line with the market. There are opportunities to work with a lot of technologies. Jamf's products do so much that you can learn a ton.

Cons

Jamf isn't really a software company anymore. The majority of the codebase is built on code from 5+ years ago that was very poorly designed. Projects to fix tech debt have never started or end up stalling out. Sales has the final word on what work gets prioritized and product really only cares about the current crisis and playing catch up. Development has gotten slower and more frustrating as more and more features are piled on top of a crumbling codebase. It's become clear that the only thing that executives care about is increasing sales and hitting financial goals. Alarm bells raised by engineering leadership go ignored over and over. They've forgotten the importance of "software" in a software company. There are no equity opportunities whatsoever for employees (outside of C-levels). Everyone was bought out of their equity after the sale to Vista with nothing to offset. There's not any opportunity for career development past a certain point. If you're fine with implementing interesting features on top of existing code you'll do fine here, but if you want to innovate or have a broader impact look elsewhere.

Pros

-Management is transparent, responsive, and good at guiding you to success -Work culture is that of Silicon Valley (Prairie in Midwest) -Industry-leading solution means that sales are easy and you're selling something you believe in -Business outlook is phenomenal and YOY growth is steadily outrageous -Frequent team outings, events, socials, etc. -Charitable organization -VERY competitive pay if you're good at your job

Cons

Growing pains can be real. Management is stretched thin at times because of this. As hiring continues, I imagine this should settle. People gripe about how things can be undefined in terms of their career outlook here, but in reality it's because the growth means new positions are constantly being created, so if you ride the wave and make your contributions known you'll find that the opportunities will find you within the company.
