Good group with bad leadership

Pros

It was a great group of developers - at least the once I met before the massive layoffs.

Cons

Small company that sells a service (there is no base product) and bites more than they can chew. Execs just make promises they know they will not be able to fulfill, and have to have people working over weekends...

Pros

Good salary that about it.

Cons

Unclear direction. Interviewing for new employees a week before layoffs. No severance packages just get out. Technology stack all over the place with no clear direction

Pros

Good people to work with when everyone wasn't stressed out. The insurance is affordable but isn't that good. Opportunities to stay up to date on newer software technologies. Nice office.

Cons

Over 50% of the development staff got laid off at once in 2015. At a time when client relationships were strained and this caused a huge workload and stress on the employees that survived the layoff. Management added developers to the DevOps team so not only did we have to work our day jobs but were on call nights and weekends. Huge projects would start but management dragged their feet hiring until the hard and long work was temporarily over. So by then the work slowed down and people got laid off. Then the cycle started over. Frequently had to work nights and weekends to satisfy deliverables management promised to clients with little involvement in the estimates from developers actually writing the software. The fear of speaking up to management without feeling like you may be on the next layoff list especially if you weren't one of the managers' old friends. No raises without asking and management made that awkward.
