Pros

- Excellent base pay and benefits (PPO insurance, maternity/paternity leave, PTO, bonus, etc.) - Thousands of expert senior engineers and team managers, most of whom are willing to sit down and discuss with you and teach you what you need to know - Impressive and robust FreeBSD-based operating system which provides a whole host of skills to develop alongside it - Large, consistent enterprise customer base for core technologies

Cons

- Too much middle management who have little to no technical knowledge. - Unspoken expectation to working long hours or weekends to fix customer issues - More time spent burning out engineers on customer issues than proactively reducing the technical debt and high workloads leading to the bugs in the first place. - No roadmap for improving core products, just quick scrambles to meet customer requests and catch up with the market - QA, customer support, etc. are understaffed and overworked, leading to delayed products and more bugs (by no fault of their own)

Pros

Pay is good. Work from home is nice on snow days or kid sick days This place used to be great. I made some really good friends with smart people

Cons

Endless rounds of layoffs. Political people kept while good engineers laid off. Layoffs in October cut some great people and we were told this is now a layoff company like Cisco, get used to round after round of layoffs. If you like night and weekend work stay here. It used to be that there would be “overtime” on big deadlines but it would go back to “normal” after the deadline passed. Now, arbitrary deadlines are everyday and there is no decompress time. The job has gotten more high pressure and there is no work life balance. I used to think this was a manager-based issue, but now it is company wide Security business is bringing down the ship.
