-All the teachers I know are working overtime from all of the work the school keeps piling on us, some administrators too, sometimes, until 1am. I am up at 5am currently writing this review before I get to work.
-You will have 8-10 hours or more of required meetings a week (most that could/should have been an email), not counting IEP meetings, which will fill up your schedule so you will be prepping and planning either on the weekends or the wee hours of the morning/night
-Since you work from home they assume you have no life and will keep piling on the work because students are not growing a full years growth-mind you- these same students blow off the NWEA growth test which you will be scored on.
-the same students who do not come to class but admin will tell you coming to class has nothing to do with student growth.
-some parents are great and involved, most do not answer the phone and want nothing to do with their child's education, much less growth.
-students are just moved on to the next grade level even if they did ZERO I mean ZERO work.
-you don't get paid for all the extra work they pile on
-no contract subs? no problem, it's YOU. and YOU have to find your own sub, another teacher who has to cover for you, and by the way you don't get paid for that either.
-students are constantly being enrolled (cha ching$$$) , students whose parents literally don't answer the phone, good luck having their IEP in time!
-your caseload will grow and continue to grow with no extra pay and no extra time to work on IEPS
-upper admin (the boss of the admin) is SO FAR removed from what we are actually doing (working our butts off) and piles on extra teaching hours, because students aren't growing....these are the same students who never show /blow off the nwea....and by the way it's required and if they don't attend all those extra hours it's your fault, because you aren't making it fun enough!
-you weren't a reading remediation teacher before? congrats you are now! for an extra four hours a week.
-admin pretends like everyone is happy , don't bother complaining because you will get into trouble for that too
-if you suck up and are really good at keeping a straight face you will move up, meanwhile these same suck ups are calling people crying over the phone about how terrible this job is
-admin lead meetings and when teachers have questions or complaints they literally cut off the meetings
-you pay for your own insurance
-you attend 9839485 marzano trainings , taught by people who don't even teach virtually or know anything about your state standards and read off a powerpoint verbatim, sometimes you attend the same training twice
-if students don't grow it's your fault
-if students don't attend it's your fault (but attendance "doesn't matter")
-they will not disclose your actual teaching hours in your contract, they literally make it up as they go
-most admin do not even have the proper degree/certification or experience being an admin, so don't expect superb communication, don't forget these are the same admin observing you and critiquing your every move
-things change year after year, there is no consistency in expectations, each year the work piles on because it's your fault students are not growing
-most of the students are home alone and neither they or their parents are held accountable for their education in any way shape or form, but it's your fault!
