Pros

KIPP DC pays quite well compared to most school districts/organizations, and the benefits are also nothing to scoff at; however, DCPS and other charter programs have started to offer equal, or greater, pay.

Cons

Starting from the top, HQ is very out of touch with the happenings of their schools and the morale of their staff. HQ staff very often leads Professional Development sessions, via Zoom, from their own houses/living rooms while school-based staff are mandated to report to their campus to log in to these virtual meetings. When HQ-staff attempts to visit a campus to get a pulse check on their staff (via all staff meetings), it is obvious they are not prepared for the questions they would be asked. This results in HQ-staff telling school-based staff to email them with their concerns as they flee. School-based staff are not always experts in their content, or even properly trained as educators (if they are, it's usually because they were properly trained as educators BEFORE they decided to work for KIPP DC). This results in adults who do not know how to maintain appropriate boundaries with their students under the guise of "building relationships", which has become an unofficial mantra for KIPP DC.
