Pros

the principal lured me in with some assi$tance initially but I can't think of any other positives...and even that wasn't so good either...it only made me "beholden" to that person. I admire the young folks who take teaching positions at their schools, but they better be careful of their own health and welfare....otherwise....things could go south...and I don't mean geographically, very very quickly and I'm not sure outside of your friends and fam who would care!

Cons

Where do I start? where do I possibly start? I wish I had read some of the reviews before I started there it would have saved me moving and travel expense I incurred in wasting my time with this very disappointing experience. The school leader was initially nice but she and a core of minions will run a new teacher into the ground if they sense the opportunity or a small weakness. They are mean, rude, crude and just plain awful people who I'm totally sorry I ever met! You ever heard of "positive reinforcement"? well...they haven't...they are hot-shot know it alls who will walk all over you if you let them. they won't work with you...but they'll certainly work against you and team up on you in continual meetings until they can grind you into dust! you'll quickly leave and they'll move on to their next target...they're vicious vicious people who deserve NO respect or admiration for their "work"...

Pros

As an organization KIPP truly cares about children and it shows.

Cons

Leadership at the school level. Not all people who are good with children are meant to lead schools. It takes a special person to lead a school. That person must be a level headed business professional, a master of people, and a phenomenal education innovator. KIPP struggled with that mix while I was there. I hope they are better at it now.

Pros

Great team and family approach, all employees stick together and most believe in KIPP mission. Has great benefits and supportive HR team.

Cons

Non competitive pay, if anything lower than local district. Extended school day of 10 hours plus 2-3 hours extra per day and weekends to plan and develop for the week as there's no team planning. Super high teacher turnover, half of staff on particular Houston campuses seems to leave throughout the year or doesn't return the following year. Makes promises to students but fails to meet them as discipline, turnover and management are constant struggles.
