      Each division is like its own company.

      Pros

      If you want to change jobs, there are so many divisions that no matter what you want to do, there is a place for you. You do not need to look outside the company, as each division has its own management style and culture that is completely unique. Benefits are great. Even the layoff packages are generous.

      Cons

      You and your accomplishments can get lost in this big company. You must be active in getting your name out.

      KLA-Tencor - A good place to work?

      Pros

      In the particular division I work in, the camaderie is much like a family. We have all worked together for many years and it's very comfortable and cozy. KLA-Tencor also has an on-site gym, which makes it easy to get a workout in during the course of the day. Compensation at KLA-Tencor is comparable; however, if you've served many years there, you find yourself below standard. Bringing people up to the standard does not seem to be in their agenda.

      Cons

      It is a very "good old boy" company; therefore, the opportunity for women to advance is very slim. In order for a woman to advance, she typically has to have no family life. Again, salary advancement is slow going. Alot of times you will accept more responsibility and not be compensated for it.

      Pros

      I was an engineer for several years. Most of my colleagues were very intelligent and experienced; a pleasure to work with. The technology was cutting edge and I learned a great deal and was able to contribute a great deal as well.

      Cons

      Endemic back-stabbing, lying, favoritism, and incompetence among the management at all levels. If you were lucky you might get a courageous person as your immediate manager who could shield you from his dictatorial and out-of-touch-with-reality superiors. If you were unlucky such a person would be your boss. Lots of turnover. The best people I knew have already left or been forced out.
