Public accounting busy seasons are stressful. Some years are rough, other years can be more manageable depending on the situation of the team you're working with (turnover, client delays, etc.)

Rules, leadership, technology, etc change quite frequently. Advisory is kind of like the Wild West. Projects, teams, and clients vary quite a bit and you’re judged off of utilization but resource management does not offer any assistance in staffing, so you have to build a lot of internal relationships to get on projects. This can be anxiety inducing and very de-motivating when you’re not fully staffed and have no control over your performance in that way when there’s down periods in the market. Additionally, advisory is pretty disconnected when it comes to in office and social culture, so it can be very isolating in that way. It can be easy to “disappear” if you’re not proactive and consistent in work and relationships. The work is also highly transactional, so the feeling of having a lasting, real impact is not common.
