Pros

Flexible schedule - staff are in charge of scheduling their client work so that it meets the needs of the clients as well as allows them to go to doctor's appointments, personal appointments or their own children's activities. Use of fleet vehicles Benefits - deductibles much less than friends of mine at for profit companies, good medical, dental and vision. PTO increases quickly. Staff are caring and compassionate, willing to do what is best for the children and families, go above and beyond what is needed to get the job done. New CEO/President, COO and CFO - exciting to see what changes will come about but yet continuing from where the past executives left off.

Cons

Working in the field with children and families is challenging!!! This job is not for everyone, even if you got your degree in the field. This is not an 8-5, Monday through Friday job. However, if you are in this field you should be highly aware of this fact. Expect to work approximately 45-50 hrs a week if you want to do your job effectively and get your required documentation completed. The Kansas contract we were awarded and began in July 2013 has been the most challenging. It seems with every contract the expectations for the private contractors gets harder and the money provided to us doesn't match what is needed to do the work effectively.

Pros

KVC offers a great opportunity for new graduates to get some interesting and insightful experience.

Cons

KVC has little "true" care about "people matter" there is a strong mean girls society within the organization and anyone who will not "fall in party line" is terminated or pushed out. They do not train their employees to do their job, they throw them to the wolves and then hold it against the employee as an example to lower performance and inability to complete required tasks. So in turn the employee is punished by a company system failure. In 12 months my department had 19 people (of 22) come and go, biggest complaint, no training lack of leaderships real and just expectations. Immediate supervisor did all they could to protect others in the department but it was not enough she fell on the sword was out spoken and resigned, then she was pushed out and threatened that she would be fired if she didn't leave sooner than her resignation. Several unethical practices witnessed on several levels. If your an individual are or looking to be licensed steer clear as you will find yourself within if not slightly after 12 months wanting out. You may also do unethical things that your told won't come back to you.

Pros

Being able to help children and adolescent patients

Cons

Saw so much abuse. Reported the abuse to supervisors who did nothing. Management would coach you on what to say when the state came into the facility. Staff were usually under educated on mental disorders. Harassment from managers due to reporting abuse.
