Pros

Flexible hours, the kids, helping others, two or three good managers, free coffee, good coworkers, valuable experience, you will see things you never thought possible

Cons

Unsafe, emotionally exhausting, lack of support on unit, they do not value their employees, they promote those who do the least.

Thanks for your review. We value each of our employee's feedback as we continue to structure our services in the best way that allows for the highest-quality of programs for our clients. While we do know that any position in the behavioral healthcare or social work fields can be emotionally stressful, we do promote self-care and offer opportunities for employees to communicate with leaders about their needs. We want all employees to feel supported and at their best to help our clients to, as you said – see improvements and changes in the lives of the youth we care for. Can you please contact HR or your supervisors so that we can address any concerns you have. Thank you!

Thank you for taking the time to share your perspective. We're so glad that you are experiencing good support from your supervisor and job flexibility. Shadowing front line staff is a great idea. Some of our departments have done that recently, such as the Business Information Technology team, seeking to learn how we can streamline processes and make documentation easier through mobile apps. Many of our top leaders are on the front lines with staff regularly. This past weekend, a Vice President brought breakfast and Easter baskets to children and teens waiting to be matched with foster families and the staff caring for them. Your review doesn't list your location or department, but assuming that you are on our largest team (KVC Kansas), we have a good sense of some of the real issues: a 39% increase in the number of children in foster care in the last 5 years, fewer safe placement options for children, and ongoing workforce challenges causing high caseloads and turnover. We released an infographic explaining the causes of these challenges and how we are partnering with others to solve them. Check it out at http://www.kvckansas.org/childwelfareinfographic Our first priority is to be fully staffed so we can provide high-quality, effective services to children and families. As a current employee, we invite you and your supervisor to make sure you're sharing your ideas with other leaders in your area. We are committed to continuous improvement and want to hear from you.

A nightmare

Pros

I can’t really think of any other than that I enjoyed some of my coworkers. Job can be flexible, but you work way too many hours

Cons

Work is brutal and you are not supported in any way. I was lied to on multiple occasions by upper management and leadership. Extremely unethical behavior. Employees are afraid to speak up due to fear of retaliation. I saw many people leave without even having another job lined up. Everything kvc says in the media is a lie

We're sorry to hear that you had a negative experience. KVC does not have a foster care program in Kansas City, MO currently so we're unsure which team you were on. Honesty and ethical behavior are paramount at KVC not only because they are core values, but because we are partnering with state child welfare agencies, the courts and other organizations to provide vital services to children and families. We understand that the work we do matters greatly in people's lives and thus we aim to put people first and do the right thing. Did you contact HR or your local leaders at any point? We would have liked the opportunity to resolve your concerns.
