Pros

Benefits, great co workers, working with children and families.

Cons

After less than two weeks on the job I knew I made a terrible mistake and I immediately started looking for another job. More than half the staff on my team left and were replaced with new employees. It's very rare that I left work at the end of the day by 5pm. The responsibilities and demands placed on case managers are unrealistic and unobtainable. Your not only the case manager, your the support worker, transporter, scheduler, advocate, and service coordinator. If working as a case manager please know you will either do your job great and have no personal life or have a personal life and not do well at this job. Supervision is inconsistent, and not supportive. Training is a joke, your given a caseload before your properly trained. Unfortunately in the long run the ones that suffer the most are the children.

Pros

-Flexibility in scheduling most jobs, so most people can adjust schedule for health appointments or family needs without using PTO -Remote work allowed part-time for most jobs -SOME supervisors are great. I love my current team and role but I've had bad experiences -SOME employees will become your friends and you can trust them with your life -Health insurance is affordable, however it's only OK if you have chronic conditions or disability.

Cons

-Pay is low and "raises" don't keep up with inflation, you will lose pay each year until they start seeing tons of turnover and add an increase -Little PTO. NO sick pay, so people come to work sick -Most overtime is not paid or if it is, it's paid at normal hourly rate -Mileage reimbursement is usually about 30% less than federal rates -They expect staff to be responsible for maintaining health and mental health and don't create an environment that actually promotes wellness and prevents PTSD. -Environment is not safe for Black and trans employees or clients (in 2022, employees have been heard using the N-word, people are often deadnamed) -Staff who raise concerns about the safety of a child are often ignored unless the supervisor feels it will affect their reputation or until a director or DCF gets involved -Supervisors often pick favorites and ignore unethical behaviors. -Little collaboration between departments -Little ability to specialize work to your expertise -Staff safety is not promoted within the culture. Exposure to gun violence and aggressive behaviors is common and supervisors don't safety plan with their staff. We protect ourselves and each other, KVC does not protect employees. -I have yet to meet any supervisor or director who is not white. There are a few people of color in higher positions and several in frontline workers. But the company is not diverse throughout. -High turnover has devastating effects on morale and client services
