Pros

This school offers a lot of development for new and inexperienced teachers. They try and sell you on the basis that you will get an abundance of coaching and support during your time at the school.

Cons

This school is not built to last. Teachers work unsustainable hours and are not fairly compensated for the work that they do. Administration often uses information against you, blames you for things out of your control and has a habit of treating and talking to teachers as if they are incapable of doing their job. As a teacher with an education background, I have been treated as if I was not trained to do this job and have been forced to believe that I am not good at what I do. Not only does this school treat teachers poorly, but they do the same to students. Students are closely monitored by teachers at all times of the day and are groomed to rely on adults for direction in everything they do both academic and non-academic. Students have little to no freedom and little to no self awareness and it has been proven to be detrimental post Kauffman education. This school preaches that it creates college graduates but all they care about is the data showing that kids are being sent off to college, not if they actually graduate and are successful. Students are just a data point to administration and when teachers actually care about them as humans, they are given feedback and improvement plans instead of being encouraged to grow well rounded young adults. Students have very little choice in the classes they take (only 11th and 12th grade have a couple differentiated classes), curriculum is not differentiated towards students needs, special education is often out of compliance and does little to help students in the contents they need. Teachers are often told to only focus on the students we know we can get to proficiency and there is nothing done to help the kids who are "too low", so they remain basic or below basic throughout their schooling at Kauffman. The talent department does a damn good job at selling a lie about what this school is like and unfortunately too many good teachers leave the profession because of the administration and how this school operates.
