Pros

The Stock Price is up.

Cons

In my 20 years in the work force, I have never seen such a mismanaged company. Projects started, then canceled. Consultants hired, then fired. On Shore to Off Shore to On Shore to Off shore. I forgot where Kemper was on this strategy when I left. New companies purchased without the employee base and infrastructure to support them. Major software systems purchased and then discontinued. Major functions moved from Chicago to Jacksonville to Offshore to Dallas to Off shore and then back to Chicago. Million dollar bonuses given to new executives while existing employees get no raises or bonuses due to "cost savings". Employees leaving left and right because management has not kept them apprised of long term plans. Under- market salaries. I know that for a fact because of the exposure I got when i was recently job searching. The satellite offices of Dallas, Jacksonville, and St. Louis mishandled during recent changes. The saddest part is that Executive Management seems unaware of all this while they continue to look for new companies to buy.

Claims Department

Pros

The people you work with (co-workers) are nice and friendly.

Cons

Very high turn-over with employees since morale is very low for these reasons: There is no career path in claims that people are frustrated since they do not know what they should do in order to get promoted. The only clear expectations provided are the consequences including termination if the unrealistic goals are not met by the adjusters. The claims department is currently a dead-end job unless you know someone from the top and you are not a minority. Upper management constantly provides "fake news" like compensation and spinning it. And yet, employees for the past few years have not received any pay increases. If one received a pay raise, that was only around 1% (keep in mind that other carriers are giving bonuses - don't expect bonuses at Kemper).

STAY FAR AWAY

Pros

Not many pros here. Most of the team level managers are nice and genuinely care. However some are promoted based on favoritism and have little to no previous management experience. As such they make for poor leaders.

Cons

One of the cheapest companies I've ever worked for. They cut corners everywhere they can. Everything from salary and raises to safety. Unrealistic goals and no incentives.
