Pros

I have worked at Kentucky Farm Bureau for quite some time. This company may be the last bastion of respect and concern for employees left in Kentucky. The work environment is low stress for most. compared to other companies in the Louisville area. There are always exceptions and management is aware and are always looking for ways to adjust the stress levels down. The salaries are on average a little lower than other larger companies but the value of the benefits plans put us a notch above other companies in my opinion. People think the grass is always greener on the other side. I have been there, it is not. If you are chasing the big bucks with little benefits, KFB is not for you. If you want a long term career where promotion can come from within, the benefits are very good and would like to work for an employer who cares about it's employees and members, then KFB is the company for you.

Cons

There are always little things you can pick out. There are no real issues that stand out to me that should make someone leave other than we are a medium size company so there will not be as much room for advancement as there are in larger companies.

Pros

KFB has an excellent opportunity for growth, and really focuses on their customers and their employees. The benefits provided to employees is outstanding, and having not been in the field of insurance before. I can say that I am very pleased with the competitive starting salary that I was offered. Also, the company prides itself on relationships, whether that be within your team of people, the office your in, your management or even face-to-face with customers - communication and opinions are valued. That, in itself, is a priceless reason to work for this incredible company.

Cons

the only con that I am facing currently is no time off within the first year of employment, coming from a job where I did have vacation options it was difficult for me to accept that they were non-negotiable on the matter. But really, it's not THAT big of a downside when you get all the other perks of working for KFB.

Pros

They have great health and dental insurance packages. Full time employees get to work half days on Fridays. They also have a convenient onsite cafeteria.

Cons

Overall, the company is very conservative and the leadership structure is similar to the military. Many departments operate autonomously, so there is a lack of communication within the entire organization. Previous positions are not back-filled, leaving more work for lower ranked individuals. Company morale is very low with an alarming rate of forced retirements and layoffs.
